Safety Considerations for Swingset parts and Swing Seats.
When considering the safety of your child when purchasing swing seats or parts, there are a few things to keep in mind. Children develop differently. Therefore, swing seats developed for children 5 to 12 are too big for children ages 2 to 5. Different playing areas for each of the age groups should be available and the children should play on their age-appropriate equipment. Swingset swings are a favorite item that needs close observation. Regularly inspect the seats for defects such as splitting or cracking. If any are present, replace the swing immediately. Swingworks offers Plastisol coated chains for use on any swingset swings. This chain won't pinch little fingers or rust like plastic sleeved chains. Our trapeze bars are coated in the same vinyl for a long lasting, durable grip. Slides should be well anchored. There should be no spaces between the slide platform and the slide bed where strings from clothing could catch and cause strangulation.

Provide proper surfacing under swingset swings.
Falls from swingset seats onto a hard surface are responsible for more than 70% of the injuries sustained on playgrounds. Improper surfacing under swing seats is the leading cause of many of those injuries. Appropriate materials for use under swing seats would include wood fiber/mulch, pea gravel and sand. Another option for use under swings would be synthetic surfaces such as rubber tiles or mats. Loose fill material such as mulch should be maintained at a depth appropriate for the height of the equipment. Cushioned surfacing under swingset swings should be provided under all equipment and its fall zones. Therefore, it should be extended a minimum of six feet in all directions from the perimeter of the equipment. |
